How it works

Execute a one-two (wall pass) combination with a parent or partner, pass, overlap, receive the return.

What you need

  • soccer ball

Your focus

The one-two pass is one of the most effective tools for beating a press. Training the timing and communication builds the intuitive understanding of how to use it in a match.

1

Player and parent stand 6 yards apart.

2

Player passes to parent and immediately sprints to a new position (overlap).

3

Parent returns the ball into the space the player is running into.

4

Player receives and turns.

5

Walk back. Do 8 reps. Switch who passes first after 4.

Goal

You've nailed it when the overlap and return are perfectly timed, no waiting, no rushing.

Helpful cues

  • The sprint starts the moment the pass leaves your foot
  • Call 'wall' before the pass to communicate
  • Receive across your body, don't stop and wait

Adjust the challenge

Make it easier

Strip it back

No sprint, stay in place and receive the return.

UpLVL it

Add the next challenge

Add a defender cone that the sprint must go around.
