Your focus
Competitive drive is most tested and developed when a team is losing. Practicing comebacks from real deficits builds the mental muscle of refusing to quit , a quality that directly transfers to match situations where lesser-motivated teams give up.
Play small-sided activity for 20 minutes. One team deliberately given a 3-0 lead at the start.
The trailing team earns triple points for any goals scored in the last 5 minutes.
During the first 15 minutes, trailing team must also track effort: every player who tracks back past halfway earns an effort token.
At 15 minutes, trailing team can cash in effort tokens for a penalty kick (5 tokens = 1 penalty).
Final score = goals + effort tokens converted.
Debrief: what changed mentally when they started scoring?
Helpful cues
