Your focus
Finishing decisions , based on reading the goalkeeper , separate clinical strikers from average ones. Training players to see the keeper's position and select the correct shot type before pulling the trigger develops true finishing decision-making intelligence.
Player approaches goal from 14 yards at walking pace. Goalkeeper in goal.
Before shooting, player identifies keeper's position: left, center, or right.
Player picks the opposite corner or chips if the keeper has come forward.
Coach then introduces goalkeeper movement, keeper shuffles to one side before the shot.
Player must read and decide in real time; no practicing the same shot twice in a row.
12 reps; rate decision quality separately from whether the goal was scored.
Goal
Success is reading the goalkeeper correctly and hitting the right zone at least 4 out of 6 reps, your eyes do the work before your foot does.
Helpful cues
- Glance at the keeper before your last touch before shooting
- See the gap, don't blast it, place it
