How it works
Combine foot coordination patterns in an agility ladder with immediate ball control upon exit.
What you need
- soccer ball
- agility ladder
Your focus
Coordinating fine foot patterns in the ladder immediately followed by ball work transfers footwork coordination into actual soccer skill. The transition trains the body to maintain control quality even when switching movement modes rapidly.
Agility ladder on ground; a ball placed 2 yards beyond the final rung.
Player completes a two-in, two-out ladder pattern.
Upon exit, collect ball and execute 5 specific ball mastery touches (inside-outside).
Next pass: ladder with Icky Shuffle pattern, then 5 sole rolls at the ball.
Third pass: single-leg hops through ladder, then 3 juggles before controlling.
Run 3 full rounds; rest 60 seconds between rounds.
Goal
It's clicking when you exit the ladder and your first ball touch is controlled, the transition from ladder to ball is seamless, not a stumble into contact.
Helpful cues
- Don't lose your balance transitioning to the ball, stay athletic
- Match the tempo of the ladder to the ball work, both should flow
- Keep shoulders square through the ladder, rotation wastes time
