Your focus
Aerial body control , jumping, cushioning a ball in the air, landing, and continuing play , requires the most advanced soccer coordination. Players who can control aerial balls maintain possession in situations where others lose it.
Player stands 5 yards from server (coach or partner with balls).
Server tosses ball into the air above player at chest height.
Player jumps, controls the ball with chest or thigh, and guides it to a specific ground cone.
Player must land on two feet and immediately dribble to the targeted cone.
5 reps chest control to right cone; 5 reps thigh control to left cone.
Progress to moving receives, player approaches the ball from 5 yards while it's in the air.
Goal
Success is a clean aerial control that settles the ball into your path without bouncing away, land balanced, ball in front, no scramble recovery needed.
Helpful cues
- Shape your body before the ball arrives, position in the air
- Soft contact cushions, tense muscles kill control
- Land and look simultaneously, know where you're going before you hit the ground
