How it works
Navigate between flat rings and cones using alternating feet to develop bilateral coordination with the ball.
What you need
- cones
- soccer ball
- flat rings
Your focus
Bilateral coordination , using both sides of the body fluidly , is foundational for ball control. Early ring and cone navigation builds the brain-body connection that later enables complex dribbling skills and balanced body control.
Lay out a pattern of flat rings and cones: rings to step in, cones to dribble around.
Player dribbles the ball with their right foot into the rings (stepping feet in each ring) and around the cones.
On the return trip, use left foot to dribble, same pattern.
Player must not knock the cones or step outside the rings.
Repeat 5 times per foot.
Add a time target on the 3rd repetition.
Goal
You're doing it right when each foot alternates cleanly through every ring, right, left, right, left, and the ball comes with you every step.
Helpful cues
- Watch your feet AND the ball, find the rhythm
- Light touches, the ball should stay close
- Pick your feet up through the rings
