How it works

Practice taking shots quickly and confidently without waiting for the perfect opportunity, building aggressive shooting confidence.

What you need

  • cones
  • soccer ball
  • goals

Your focus

Many youth players hesitate to shoot because they fear missing. This drill rewards the act of shooting , not the outcome , building the confident shooting mindset that leads to more goals over a season.

1

Set up a shooting lane: player starts 20 yards from goal with a queue of balls.

2

Coach or partner rolls a ball to the player's right or left every 5 seconds.

3

Player must shoot within 2 touches, no hesitation allowed.

4

Award 2 points for a shot taken within 2 touches, 1 point for a goal.

5

A player who holds the ball without shooting loses 1 point.

6

15 balls per player; track shooting confidence score.

Goal

Success is pulling the trigger on the first shot that's available, not waiting for perfect. If your foot was loaded and you passed instead, ask yourself why.
