Your focus
Confidence at the highest level means stepping forward when the stakes are highest. Deliberately practicing high-stakes moments , and self-selecting into them , builds the confident mindset that distinguishes leaders from bystanders in important games.
Coach announces at the start of practice: there will be a pressure moment at the end.
After the main session, set up a 'game decider', penalty shootout, free kick competition, or 1v1.
Players must volunteer for each role, coach does not assign.
Players who volunteer are praised regardless of outcome; players who hesitate are coached privately.
After each attempt, player stands in front of group and says one sentence about their experience.
Team gives a 10-second standing cheer for every volunteer.
Helpful cues
- Confidence is a verb, it's shown by stepping forward, not thinking about it
- What's the worst that can happen? Miss. Get up. Go again.
- Your teammates remember who stepped up, be that person
