How it works
Follow a sequence of coach instructions during a dribbling activity to practice listening and applying feedback immediately.
What you need
- cones
- soccer ball
Your focus
Coachability starts with listening. Young players who practice acting immediately on instructions build the receptive habit that allows all other coaching to take effect more quickly throughout their development.
Players move with the ball freely in a bounded space.
Coach calls instructions: 'stop,' 'turn,' 'fast,' 'slow,' 'switch feet.'
Players must respond within 2 seconds of each instruction.
Coach adds complexity: 'move with the ball to the blue cone, then stop.'
Players who respond correctly first get a point.
Play for 5 minutes; highlight players who listened and responded well.
Helpful cues
- Ears open, eyes up
- React first, think second
