How it works

Complete a T-shaped dribbling pattern to develop multi-directional change of direction with a ball.

What you need

  • cones
  • soccer ball

Your focus

The T-drill demands forward acceleration, lateral shuffling, and backpedaling , all common movements in soccer. Performing it with a ball integrates technical control with physical agility.

1

Set up cones in a T shape: one cone at the start, one 10 yards ahead, and two cones 5 yards to each side of the top cone.

2

Player dribbles forward to the top cone.

3

Shuffle laterally to the left cone, keeping ball under control.

4

Shuffle back across to the right cone.

5

Shuffle back to center, then dribble back to start.

6

Rest 30 seconds and repeat.

Goal

You're nailing it when you complete the full T-shape without hesitating at the turns and the ball never gets away from you at the corners.

Helpful cues

  • Stay low in your shuffle
  • Don't cross your feet laterally
  • Keep the ball close, 2-touch max per yard

Adjust the challenge

Make it easier

Strip it back

Walk through the pattern without a ball first to learn the footwork.

UpLVL it

Add the next challenge

Coach calls 'left' or 'right' at the top cone to add a reactive decision.
