How it works
Dribble at speed into a decision gate and cut in the direction signaled by a coach or parent.
What you need
- cones
- soccer ball
Your focus
Game-speed agility only transfers if the player learns to process visual information while moving with the ball. Adding a decision element replicates the perceptual demands of real match situations.
Set two cones 2 yards apart as a gate, 10 yards from the start.
Player dribbles at full speed toward the gate.
Coach raises left or right arm just before the player reaches the gate.
Player cuts hard in the direction signaled, dribbles 5 yards, stops the ball.
Do 8 reps. Coach varies timing of the signal to force late decisions.
Goal
You've got it when you execute the cut at full speed without losing the ball or slowing before the signal.
Helpful cues
- Eyes up, read the signal early
- Explode into the cut
- Keep the ball close through the turn
Adjust the challenge
Make it easier
Strip it back
Coach signals early (before player is halfway to the gate).UpLVL it
Add the next challenge
Add a second gate 5 yards after the first, coach signals at each.No account needed
Build a practice plan
Add drills, keep the plan in this browser, then share a link with your staff or parents. This library helps you find the right drill. Inside UpLVL the right drill finds the player.
After every practice, UpLVL automatically surfaces the drills each player needs to work on most. See it for yourself.
