Your focus
The catch-and-shoot is the most valuable shooting skill in lacrosse because it gives the shooter the most time before the defender closes out. Training the quick release from a caught pass develops both catching and shooting in one sequence.
Player stands at the 10-yard shooting position.
Feeder passes from a 45-degree angle.
Player catches and immediately shoots in one fluid motion, no extra cradles.
Complete 15 catch-and-shoot reps from both left and right feed angles.
Goal
It's working when the shot releases within one cradle of catching, catch, one motion, shoot. Any more and the defender closes in.
Helpful cues
- Load your shot as the ball arrives, not after you catch it
- One motion: catch, step, shoot
- Eyes on the goal corner before the ball arrives, know where you're shooting
