How it works

Execute a coordinated zone ride scheme to trap and force a clearing turnover.

What you need

  • lacrosse stick
  • lacrosse ball
  • cones
  • pinnies

Your focus

The zone ride uses pre-set formations to cut off clearing routes systematically rather than chasing individuals. Executing a coordinated zone ride requires all riders to trust each other's assignments , building the team communication that makes rides effective.

1

Riding team sets up in a 1-3-1 zone ride scheme across the defensive half.

2

As the ball moves, riding players shift their zone positions to seal passing lanes.

3

If the ball enters a trap zone (corner of the field), two riders converge while others seal off all outlets.

4

Run 6 clearing attempts against the zone ride. Track how many turnovers result.

Goal

You're there when the zone traps the carrier and forces a rushed decision, the scheme creates the turnover, not just individual pressure.

Helpful cues

  • Zone ride is a team trap, everyone must shift when the ball moves
  • Trap the corner: two on the ball, everyone else seals outlets
  • Communicate the ball position, your zone partners can't always see it

Adjust the challenge

Make it easier

Strip it back

Walk through the zone shifts slowly before running at full speed.

UpLVL it

Add the next challenge

Clearing unit goes 5-out with extra midfielders, forcing the zone to cover more personnel.
