Ride & Clear

Legend

  • three riders
  • ball
  • clear pass
  • ride pressure

How it works

Execute a basic player-to-player press ride against a three-player clearing unit.

What you need

  • lacrosse stick
  • lacrosse ball
  • cones
  • goal

Your focus

The player-to-player press ride teaches offensive players to create pressure at the source of the clear. Learning to match up on clearing personnel builds the riding habits that generate turnovers and fast breaks at all levels.

1

Three riders match up against three clearing defenders (including goalie).

2

On the goalie's signal (picking up the ball), all three riders sprint to their assignment.

3

Riders apply stick pressure without fouling; clearing unit tries to pass out of pressure.

4

If the clearing unit completes a pass across midfield, clearing wins. If riders force a bad pass, riders win. Run 8 ride attempts.

Goal

It's working when you pressure your assignment and eliminate at least one outlet pass option, the clear has to go somewhere you haven't covered.

Helpful cues

  • Match up before the goalie moves, don't sprint after them
  • Keep your stick in the passing lane, not just on their body
  • Cut off the path first, then apply stick pressure

Adjust the challenge

Make it easier

Strip it back

Riders only match up; no stick checking allowed, just lane denial.

UpLVL it

Add the next challenge

Clearing unit adds a fourth player; riders must cover a 3v4 situation.
