How it works
React to a directional call and sprint the correct clear lane, arriving with the stick in position.
What you need
- 3 cones
- lacrosse stick
Your focus
Clearing decisions in a game happen in under a second. The ball carrier needs to know immediately whether a lane is open or not. This drill trains the habit of reading the call and committing , without hesitating.
Set 3 cones in a triangle: one start cone, one left outlet at 45 degrees, one right outlet at 45 degrees.
Start at the base cone with stick ready.
Parent calls "clear left," "clear right," or "hold" (hold = stay, defender is between you and the ball).
On "clear left/right": sprint full speed to that cone, arrive in ready position.
On "hold": take two quick lateral shuffle steps and freeze.
Complete 12 reps.
Goal
You've got it when you execute the correct response (sprint or shuffle-freeze) on 11 of 12 calls.
Helpful cues
- Commit fully on "clear", half-speed gives the defense time to recover
- On "hold," stay compact, don't drift backward
- Eyes forward on the sprint, you're looking for the ball, not the cone
Adjust the challenge
Make it easier
