How it works
Build resilience by continuing a skill drill regardless of difficulty and celebrating the act of trying again.
What you need
- lacrosse stick
- lacrosse ball
- cones
Your focus
Young athletes need positive associations with persistence. Celebrating 'trying again' explicitly , not just success , builds the resilience neural pathway that sustains long-term development.
Players attempt a catching drill that is slightly too hard (coach makes the throws slightly difficult).
When the ball is dropped, coach shouts 'Try Again Trophy!' and claps loudly.
Player immediately sets up and tries again.
After practice, coach names the most resilient player of the day.
Helpful cues
- The trophy goes to the player who tries again the fastest
- Dropping the ball is practice, trying again is progress
- Your best catch might be your next one
