Leadership

How it works

Lead a team huddle between possessions, calling one adjustment and one motivational statement.

What you need

  • lacrosse stick
  • lacrosse ball
  • cones
  • goal
  • pinnies

Your focus

Game leadership happens during stoppages. Players who can organize their teammates, deliver a clear tactical adjustment, and re-energize the group have a game-changing impact that transcends individual skill.

1

Designate a different Huddle Captain for each possession in a small-sided activity scrimmage.

2

After each dead ball, the Huddle Captain calls their team in, delivers one tactical adjustment and one motivational statement within 15 seconds.

3

Team implements the adjustment in the next possession.

4

Coach evaluates the quality and impact of each huddle.

Helpful cues

  • Tactical: tell them what to do differently, not what went wrong
  • Motivational: make it specific to THIS team in THIS moment, not generic
  • 15 seconds: leaders are concise, every word matters

Adjust the challenge

Make it easier

Strip it back

Coach whispers the tactical adjustment to the Huddle Captain; they only need to deliver it and add the motivation.

UpLVL it

Add the next challenge

Huddle Captain must also call a set play for the next possession.
