Your focus
The hardest leadership moments are the crisis moments , when a team is losing and time is short. Training players to step into these moments with tactical clarity, emotional composure, and communicative precision produces the leaders who change game outcomes.
Coach assigns one player full game-leadership authority: timeouts, line changes, play calls.
Team is down 2 goals with 3 minutes left in a scrimmage.
Leader runs the team using real leadership tools: calls plays, makes subs, delivers huddle messages.
Coach evaluates tactical decisions, communication quality, and team response. Run twice with different leaders.
Helpful cues
- Crisis leadership is calm leadership, your team takes their emotional cue from you
- Make fast, committed decisions, hesitation in a crisis is the most contagious thing on a team
