Arc & Set Position Footwork
Goalie Skills
Legend
- goalie
- partner with ball
- five crease-arc cones
- bidirectional mirrored walk routes
How it works
Learn to track the ball carrier along the crease arc, maintaining proper set position, weight forward, stick centered, without opening up or losing footwork.
What you need
- lacrosse stick
- cones (mark crease arc)
- lacrosse ball
Your focus
The biggest beginner goalie mistake is getting flat-footed or turning their hips. Every save percentage point starts with correct arc tracking.
Use 5 cones to mark your arc (6-foot radius from the crease center).
Partner or coach walks slowly with a ball around the outside. You shuffle along the arc, always facing them.
Stop at each cone, check: hips square, weight on balls of feet, stick at midline.
Progress to jogging speed. Run 5 full arc repetitions.
Goal
It's clicking when you track the carrier around the arc without your feet crossing or your body opening up, stay square, stay set, move your feet not your hips.
Helpful cues
- Shuffle, never cross your feet on the arc
- Stick tip points at the ball carrier at all times
- Set early, don't be moving when the shot comes
