How it works
Practice directing full attention to one coaching cue during a simple catching drill.
What you need
- lacrosse stick
- lacrosse ball
Your focus
Young athletes are easily distracted during practice. Teaching intentional focus on one thing at a time builds the attentional control that supports skill acquisition and game performance.
Coach gives one specific focus cue before the drill begins (e.g., 'watch the ball into your stick').
Players pair up and pass for 2 minutes with that single cue as their only goal.
Coach pauses and asks a random player: 'What were you focusing on?'
If the player can answer correctly and demonstrate it, they earn a team point.
Helpful cues
- One thing at a time, let everything else fade out
- If you can name your focus, you can keep it
- Eyes on the ball into your stick, that's the only thing that matters right now
