How it works

Compete with maximum effort and drive in a single-elimination point playoff format at the end of practice.

What you need

  • lacrosse stick
  • lacrosse ball
  • goal
  • pinnies
  • cones

Your focus

Single-elimination stakes create the most authentic competitive pressure outside of actual games. Players who learn to compete at maximum intensity on the last play of practice will be ready to compete on the most important play of a game.

1

At the end of practice, randomly select two teams for a small-sided activity single-elimination point competition.

2

First team to score wins. Losers are eliminated; new team replaces them.

3

The final two teams play best of 3 for the practice championship.

4

Coach evaluates intensity, decision-making, and effort, not just results.

Helpful cues

  • Compete like the winner gets to skip conditioning, because they will
  • Elimination is the greatest motivator, use it as fuel
  • Champion behavior: maximum effort, clean execution, no excuses

Adjust the challenge

Make it easier

Strip it back

Play to 2 goals instead of 1; less elimination pressure per play.

UpLVL it

Add the next challenge

Add fatigue: teams must complete a 40-yard sprint before entering the competition area each round.
