How it works
Compete against a partner in a high-intensity ground ball battle that rewards effort and physical drive.
What you need
- lacrosse stick
- lacrosse ball
- cones
Your focus
Ground ball competitions are one of the purest tests of competitive drive. The player who wants it more typically wins the ground ball battle, and repeated reps of intense competition build the competitive identity young athletes need.
Two players face each other 10 yards apart. Coach stands in the middle.
Coach rolls the ball to one side. Both players sprint for it.
Player who scoops must sprint to a cone 5 yards behind them to score a point.
Play to 7 points. Keep score visible.
Goal
It's working when you win more than half the ground ball battles, and when you lose one, you're already moving to the next one, not thinking about the last.
Helpful cues
- Want it more, that's the whole drill
- Get low before the ball, not during
- Win the ball, then win the sprint, two battles per rep
