Your focus
Confidence in young athletes is built through repetition and success experiences. Pairing skill practice with positive self-affirmation creates an association between effort and capability.
Player stands 5 feet from a wall and throws and catches off the wall.
After every successful catch, player says 'Yes!' or another positive affirmation.
Coach tracks consecutive successful catches and announces personal bests.
Each player sets a personal goal before starting and celebrates reaching it.
Goal
You've got it when you catch 10 in a row and say 'I can do it' out loud before the 11th. Confidence isn't silent, it gets louder when you make it.
Helpful cues
- Every catch proves you can do it, celebrate it
- A miss just means the next throw is your best yet
- Say your affirmation out loud, don't mumble it
