How it works

Perform a critical game-simulation task (face-off, penalty shot, or last possession) in front of the full team with scoreboard consequences.

What you need

  • lacrosse stick
  • lacrosse ball
  • goal
  • cones
  • pinnies

Your focus

Clutch performance requires separating self-worth from the outcome while maintaining full commitment. Training in spotlight conditions builds the neural pathways associated with calm, confident execution under maximum stakes.

1

At the end of practice, announce a single player for the 'spotlight moment.'

2

The player is given a specific clutch task: game-winning the start of play, penalty shot, last-possession attack.

3

The rest of the team creates an authentic game atmosphere, cheering, chanting.

4

After the rep, team gives the player one word that describes their confidence level. Player reflects.

Helpful cues

  • The spotlight is an honor, accept it with presence
  • Your preparation is your confidence, you've done this a thousand times
  • Whatever happens here, your teammates respect the courage it takes to step into the spotlight
