How it works
Maintain a continuous verbal communication chain across all defensive players during an offensive possession.
What you need
- lacrosse stick
- lacrosse ball
- cones
- goal
Your focus
Elite defensive units communicate continuously , not just at crisis moments. Training the communication chain ensures all six defensive players have active, real-time information throughout each possession.
Six defensive players set up in a half-field player-to-player defense.
Six offensive players run a structured motion.
Each defender must verbally call out their assignment's position and movement at every pass: 'Ball is top right! my assignment is cutting!'
Coach listens for communication gaps and stops play when a gap occurs. Run the possession 4 times.
Helpful cues
- If you're silent for more than 3 seconds, you're not communicating enough
- Call what your assignment is doing, not just where the ball is
- Specific calls beat vague calls, 'cutting backside' not just 'watch out'
