Fast Break by Committee

Communication & Teamwork

Legend

  • three attackers
  • two defenders
  • ball
  • three-touch sequence

How it works

Complete a 3v2 fast break where all three offensive players must touch the ball before a shot.

What you need

  • lacrosse stick
  • lacrosse ball
  • cones
  • goal

Your focus

Forcing all players to handle the ball before shooting teaches ball-sharing instincts and prevents early settling for individual play. It trains the communication needed to coordinate a quick sequence under pressure.

1

Three offensive players versus two defenders set up at midfield.

2

Offense initiates the fast break. All three must possess the ball before the final shot.

3

A shot without all three touching the ball earns no goal, even if it goes in.

4

Run 8 fast breaks and track how many result in successful team goals.

Helpful cues

  • Talk to each other, call for the ball with purpose
  • Pass to the open teammate first, not the closest teammate
  • Be patient: a completed sequence always beats a forced individual shot

Adjust the challenge

Make it easier

Strip it back

Remove defenders; run as an unopposed team pattern.

UpLVL it

Add the next challenge

Add a third defender who releases 5 seconds after the fast break starts.
