Your focus
Attacking a zone requires constant verbal and visual communication to identify and exploit gaps. Practicing scripted zone attack patterns with communication triggers builds the teamwork foundation for reading live zones.
Six offensive players face a 3-3 zone defense.
Offense has three coded verbal signals: 'ice' (skip pass), 'fire' (drive the gap), 'reset' (ball back to top).
Offensive players must call the appropriate signal before executing the action.
Run the attack for 45 seconds per possession. Award a point for each point scored from a correctly communicated action.
Helpful cues
- Read the zone gap first, then call the action, not the other way
- The signal alerts your teammates before the action happens
- One misread can be fixed; failing to communicate can't
