How it works

Demonstrate coachability by executing a newly introduced team concept in a live scrimmage with minimal repetitions.

What you need

  • lacrosse stick
  • lacrosse ball
  • cones
  • goal
  • pinnies

Your focus

At the competitive level, teams need players who can absorb a new scheme quickly and execute it under pressure. This drill tests both listening comprehension and application speed , the definition of elite coachability.

1

Coach introduces a new defensive scheme (zone, slide package) or offensive motion in 3 minutes of whiteboard explanation.

2

Team runs one walk-through rep.

3

Team immediately plays a small-sided activity scrimmage using only the new concept.

4

Coach pauses to make one correction per team; teams regroup and continue. Run for 10 minutes.

Helpful cues

  • You only get one walk-through, ask your questions now
  • Trust the concept even when it feels uncomfortable
  • Talk to your teammates constantly, shared understanding makes schemes work

Adjust the challenge

Make it easier

Strip it back
