Coachability

How it works

Develop coachability by reviewing a live repetition on the spot and self-identifying corrections before the coach provides them.

What you need

  • lacrosse stick
  • lacrosse ball
  • cones
  • goal

Your focus

Advanced coachability is self-directed. When players can identify their own errors, they become more receptive to external coaching and develop the internal awareness elite players possess.

1

Player runs a dodge-and-shoot combination.

2

After each rep, player walks back to coach and answers: 'What did I do well? What would I change?'

3

Coach then adds their observation. Player compares their self-assessment to the coach's.

4

Player immediately runs the next rep targeting the identified correction. Repeat 5 cycles.

Helpful cues

  • Self-awareness is the first step to self-improvement
  • Don't just say 'everything was good', pick something specific
  • The best players are their own hardest critics and their own biggest motivators

Build a practice plan

Add drills, keep the plan in this browser, then share a link with your staff or parents.

This library helps you find the right drill. Inside UpLVL the right drill finds the player.

After every practice, UpLVL automatically surfaces the drills each player needs to work on most. See it for yourself.
