How it works
Successfully clear the ball against a full-press ride within a 25-second shot clock.
What you need
- lacrosse stick
- lacrosse ball
- cones
- goal
Your focus
Game clearing is done under time and personnel pressure simultaneously. Training with a shot clock and full-press riders replicates late-game situations where clearing breakdowns most often occur.
Full defensive unit (including goalie) prepares to clear against a full-press offensive unit.
Whistle starts the 25-second clock.
Clearing unit must advance ball past midfield and into the attack zone.
Turnovers result in an immediate fast break. Successful clears earn a set half-court possession. Run 10 reps.
Goal
You're there when the ball crosses midfield under the shot clock with at least 5 seconds to spare, not scrambling past the buzzer.
Helpful cues
- Communicate early, the goalie calls the clear before leaving the crease
- Don't run into traffic; attack the sideline alley
- One quick pass beats carrying into pressure
