Two-Hand Push Check
Body Checking
Legend
- ball carrier
- defender
- cone
- approach routes
How it works
Execute a legal two-handed push check on a moving ball carrier using proper body mechanics.
What you need
- lacrosse stick
- lacrosse ball
- body pads
- cones
Your focus
The push check is the foundational body checking technique in lacrosse. Learning proper hand placement, leverage, and hip engagement prevents dangerous technique and builds effective defensive physicality.
Both players wear appropriate pads. Ball carrier runs a straight line toward a cone.
Defender approaches from the side at a 45-degree angle.
Defender places both hands on the ball carrier's shoulder/chest area and delivers a controlled push-through check.
Reset and repeat 5 times, then switch roles.
Goal
It's working when the push check slows the carrier and shifts their path, not a shove that sends them sideways, but controlled contact that redirects them.
Helpful cues
- Bend at the knees before contact, power comes from the legs
- Keep your head up and neck safe
- Push through with both hands evenly, no wild swings
