How it works

Develop elite coachability by reviewing video of a player's mistake, receiving a correction, and immediately implementing it on ice.

What you need

  • hockey stick
  • puck
  • video review setup
  • ice

Your focus

Video-based feedback is the gold standard of coachability development because it removes ambiguity , the player sees exactly what the coach sees. The ability to translate visual feedback into immediate on-ice change is a defining characteristic of high-level coachable players. This drill bridges the gap between film room instruction and on-ice execution.

1

Record a practice segment involving a specific skill (breakout positioning, defensive gap, shooting mechanics).

2

Review 2-3 specific clips with a player showing a correctable error.

3

Coach provides one clear verbal correction linked to what was seen on video.

4

Player returns to ice and runs the exact same scenario from the video 3 times, attempting to correct the error.

Helpful cues

  • What did you see on the video? What needs to change?
  • Don't explain it, fix it on the ice
  • Progress in one rep is still progress
