How it works
Train decisive hot-route decision-making when a blitz is identified, requiring the QB to signal, confirm, and throw to the hot receiver in under 2 seconds.
What you need
- football
- flags
- cones
Your focus
The hot route decision is high-speed decision-making , the QB must identify the blitz, signal the adjustment, and deliver the ball before the rusher pulls the flag. Practicing this sequence at speed builds the automatic decision-making that game pressure demands. QBs who master this skill convert blitz situations from disadvantages into scoring opportunities.
QB lines up in shotgun with two receivers; one defender will blitz on every snap.
Pre-snap, QB identifies the blitz and signals the hot route receiver with a tap signal.
On the snap, QB has 1.5 seconds before the rusher pulls the flag, must deliver to the hot route receiver.
Grade each rep: correct identification (1 point), correct signal (1 point), on-time delivery (1 point).
Goal
Success is signaling the hot route, confirming with the receiver, and throwing it before the rush arrives, all three steps, every time.
Helpful cues
- See the blitz, signal it, throw it, three steps, one second
- Hot route decision is made before the snap, not during it
- Speed of decision = speed of throw in this situation
Adjust the challenge
Make it easier
Strip it back
Give QB 3 seconds before the rusher engages to allow a longer decision window.UpLVL it
Add the next challenge
Mix blitz and no-blitz snaps randomly, QB cannot simply default to the hot route every time.No account needed
