How it works

Develop advanced decision-making by requiring the QB to identify a post-snap coverage rotation and adjust the throw target mid-drop.

What you need

  • football
  • flags
  • cones

Your focus

Elite defenses in flag football rotate coverage post-snap, invalidating pre-snap reads. QBs who can only make pre-snap decisions become predictable , QBs who adapt mid-drop are nearly undefendable. Training post-snap decision adaptation separates truly advanced decision-makers from pre-snap readers.

1

Defense aligns in one coverage pre-snap but rotates to a different coverage at the snap on every rep.

2

QB takes the snap and reads the rotation during the drop, the pre-snap read must be updated.

3

QB throws to the receiver that the POST-snap coverage left open, not the pre-snap target.

4

Run 10 reps; grade how quickly the QB identifies the rotation and updates the decision.

Goal

You've got it when you identify the post-snap coverage rotation and redirect your throw before the wrong receiver is locked in.

Helpful cues

  • Your pre-snap read is a hypothesis, confirm it after the snap
  • Look for the rotation immediately at the snap, it happens in the first step
  • Change the target, not the throw timing, be decisive with the new read

Adjust the challenge

Make it easier

Strip it back

Coach announces 'Rotate' at the snap so the QB knows to look for it, remove the surprise element.

UpLVL it

Add the next challenge

Defense rotates on 50% of snaps and stays in the original coverage on 50%, QB cannot rely on rotation always happening.
