How it works

Build individual confidence by having each player run their self-identified best route and celebrate its successful execution.

What you need

  • football
  • flags
  • cones

Your focus

Young players build confidence most effectively from successful repetition of skills they feel good about. Allowing self-selection of the best route gives players ownership and creates emotional investment in the rep. Public celebration of successful execution by teammates amplifies the confidence-building effect.

1

Each player tells the coach their favorite route before practice (slant, go, out, etc.).

2

QB throws each player their chosen route five times in a row with no defense.

3

After a successful catch, the player pumps their fist and calls 'That's my route!'

4

Teammates clap after each successful catch to build shared confidence.

Helpful cues

  • Know your best route, own it
  • Celebrate the catch, you earned it
  • Confidence grows every time you catch that ball

Adjust the challenge

Make it easier

Strip it back

Reduce to an 8-yard route and throw at lower speed.

UpLVL it

Add the next challenge

Add a passive defender at the catch point who reaches for the flag after the catch.

Build a practice plan

Add drills, keep the plan in this browser, then share a link with your staff or parents.

This library helps you find the right drill. Inside UpLVL the right drill finds the player.

After every practice, UpLVL automatically surfaces the drills each player needs to work on most. See it for yourself.
