How it works

Push composure and resilience to elite levels by requiring teams to overcome three consecutive adversity events to win a simulated championship scenario.

What you need

  • football
  • flags
  • cones

Your focus

Real championships are won by teams that maintain composure through multiple adversity events , not just one. Back-to-back adversity stacks the emotional challenge until only players with genuine resilience habits can maintain execution. This drill creates a reference memory of overcoming stacked adversity that players can draw on in real championship moments.

1

Run a championship scenario (down 6, two-minute drill) with a scripted plan: penalty on play 1, dropped pass on play 2, and a tipped ball near-interception on play 3.

2

The team must score within the remaining plays after the three adversity events.

3

Coaches assess composure quality after each adversity event (1-5 scale) and note whether execution quality was maintained.

4

Debrief as a group: what was the most composure-demanding moment and how did the team respond?

Helpful cues

  • Three hits and still standing, that's what resilience looks like
  • Each adversity is a test, pass all three and you're ready for any game
  • Your resilience is your team's foundation

Adjust the challenge

Make it easier

Strip it back

Use only two scripted adversity events.

UpLVL it

Add the next challenge

Add a fourth adversity: a coach replaces the QB mid-drive, requiring the backup to immediately demonstrate composure in a championship moment.
