How it works
Develop the spin move as an evasion technique specific to flag football where the carrier must protect both flags during the spin.
What you need
- football
- flags
- cones
Your focus
The spin move in flag football requires the carrier to protect the flags on both hips as they rotate, making it more nuanced than in tackle football. Practicing the spin at moderate speed builds body awareness and flag protection instinct. This move is particularly effective when a defender overcommits to one side.
Set up a 10-yard lane with a cone at the 5-yard mark representing a defender.
Player with ball and flags runs at three-quarter speed toward the cone.
At 1 yard before the cone, player executes a 360-degree spin move, keeping elbows tucked to protect flags.
After the spin, accelerate through the remaining 5 yards. Run 5 reps each direction.
Goal
You're there when your spin move keeps both flags attached, body tight, no wide arms that create easy grabs.
Helpful cues
- Elbows in tight during the spin to protect your flags
- Complete the full 360, don't stop halfway
- Accelerate out of the spin immediately
Adjust the challenge

Build a practice plan
Add drills, keep the plan in this browser, then share a link with your staff or parents. This library helps you find the right drill. Inside UpLVL the right drill finds the player.
After every practice, UpLVL automatically surfaces the drills each player needs to work on most. See it for yourself.
