How it works

Demonstrate elite-level stick and ball control by executing a combination of Indian dribble, reverse stick, and 3D lift in a continuous sequence against a live defender.

What you need

  • field hockey sticks
  • field hockey ball
  • cones
  • mini hurdles

Your focus

Elite stick and ball control is demonstrated in combination, not isolation. Combining multiple techniques in sequence against a live defender replicates the demands of 1v1 situations at the highest level. Players who can string combinations together are the most dangerous dribblers.

1

Player dribbles toward a defender in a 15-yard channel.

2

Player must use at least 3 different techniques (Indian dribble, reverse, 3D lift) to beat the defender.

3

Continue to goal after beating the defender.

4

Defender is progressively active across 10 reps.

Goal

You're doing it right when all three moves, Indian dribble, reverse stick, and 3D lift, connect in one clean run without stopping.

Helpful cues

  • Change of technique is as important as change of direction
  • 3D lift at the moment the defender commits their stick
  • String the combination, don't stop between each move
