How it works
Introduce the drag flick technique as a shooting option from penalty corner situations.
What you need
- field hockey sticks
- field hockey ball
- goal
- cones
Your focus
The drag flick is a specialized shot that is highly effective from penalty corners. Learning the technique early gives players more time to master it before competitive play. Even beginners who cannot yet power the flick benefit from the mechanical understanding and stick skill development.
Study the drag flick motion: ball drag forward, low approach, flicking action through the wrist.
Practice the wrist flicking motion without a ball first.
Add the ball: drag 3 yards and execute the flick toward goal.
Complete 15 drag flick attempts; focus on trajectory (low and hard) over power.
Goal
Success is your drag flick going cleanly off the ground and on frame, lifted, accurate, and low enough to be useful.
Helpful cues
- Drag the ball forward before you flick
- Wrist snap at the end drives the power
- Low to high trajectory, don't scoop it over the bar
