How it works
Execute a combination of 3D ball lifts, aerial receptions, and quick dribbling transitions to develop elite-level coordination and body control.
What you need
- field hockey stick
- field hockey ball
- cones
- mini hurdles
Your focus
Elite-level coordination in field hockey requires seamlessly chaining aerial and ground skills together. Combination training reflects the unpredictable skill demands of international-level play. Players with superior body control create more attacking opportunities and maintain possession in tight spaces.
Player receives an aerial pass from a partner, controlling it on the stick.
Immediately dribbles 5 yards and executes a 3D lift over a mini hurdle.
Continues dribbling through a 3-cone slalom.
Finishes with an aerial pass back to the partner. Run 8 complete cycles.
Goal
You're doing it right when all three elements, lift, aerial receive, and transition dribble, connect without a reset pause.
Helpful cues
- Link each skill, they're one movement, not four separate ones
- High aerial reception = high catching hands
- Body control through every transition
