How it works

Your focus
Every player goes cold during a game. Resilient shooters fight through cold stretches, while fragile shooters stop shooting. This drill forces players into a cold streak and then trains the exact behaviors needed to rebuild rhythm and confidence. Players who complete this drill become mentally tougher shooters.
Player shoots from the elbow. Coach modifies the basket (blocks shots or tips them out) for 5 consecutive attempts to induce a forced miss streak.
After the 5 forced misses, player must rebuild with a simplified close-range shot for 3 consecutive makes.
Then return to elbow and shoot 5 more. Track how quickly player's form and confidence return.
Discuss: What did you tell yourself during the miss streak? What helped you rebuild?
Goal
It's working when your shooting percentage climbs back close to your normal after the cold streak, the forced slump didn't break your mechanics, just your streak.
Helpful cues
- Cold stretches end, resilient players wait them out without changing their approach
- Keep your mechanics when you're cold, changing your form makes it worse
- Three makes from close range is your reset, use the tool
