Your focus
The skip pass is one of the most valuable tools in basketball because it moves the ball faster than dribbling and finds shooters before the defense can rotate. Players who can make accurate skip passes become elite playmakers at every level. Skip passing requires court vision , seeing the entire floor at once.
Players set up at 5 spots around the three-point arc: top, both wings, both corners.
Ball starts at top. Player at top skips to opposite corner, who skips back to the other wing, continuing the pattern.
Every pass must be a two-handed chest or overhead skip pass, no one-hand flips.
Complete 3 full rotations. Speed up each round.
Goal
It's working when the skip pass arrives at the wing before the defense can close, not just accurate, but timed so the shooter has space.
Helpful cues
- See the skip receiver before you catch the ball, pre-read the floor
- Strong pass, skip passes travel distance, so put something on it
- Head on a swivel: know where every player is at all times
