How it works
Develop drive-and-kick court vision by consistently identifying and delivering to the open shooter during penetration.
What you need
- basketball
- hoop
- defenders
Your focus
Drive-and-kick offense only works if the driver sees the open shooter before the kick-out and delivers an accurate pass. Players who can identify the open corner or wing shooter while mid-drive and deliver a hittable pass become the most valuable offensive players in any system. This skill is fundamental to team offensive efficiency.
Ball handler drives from the wing. Three defenders rotate as the ball penetrates.
One corner spacer will be left open, driver must identify which one and kick out accurately.
Corner player must shoot, if they don't receive the pass in a shootable location, it counts as a miscommunication.
Run 15 reps from each wing. Grade on identification speed and pass accuracy.
Goal
You're there when the kick-out reaches the shooter in rhythm, not after they've already adjusted their feet, but exactly when they're ready to shoot.
Helpful cues
- See the rotation: which corner is the help leaving from?
- Kick when you feel the closing-out defense, not when you're already in traffic
- A hittable pass is a catchable pass in the shooter's shooting pocket
