How it works
Reinforce process-focused mindset by grading players on technique and effort rather than on whether shots go in.

Your focus
Outcome-focused players become anxious when results are bad and complacent when results are good. Process-focused players continuously improve because they control what they grade themselves on. This mindset shift is one of the most powerful developments in youth athlete performance psychology.
Player shoots 10 attempts. Each shot is graded on: setup (1–3), release (1–3), follow-through (1–3).
Total process score is tracked, not make percentage. A perfect-technique miss scores 9/9.
After each rep, player self-grades and explains their grade.
Compare process score to make percentage over time, identify if high process scores predict makes in the long run.
Helpful cues
- Grade your form, not the result, the result follows the form
- A perfect miss is more valuable than a lucky make in practice
- Your process is the only thing you control, control it completely
Adjust the challenge
Make it easier
Strip it back
