Your focus
Players with a fixed mindset avoid mistakes and fear failure. Players with a growth mindset treat mistakes as information and immediately seek to correct them. Teaching the 'mistake meeting' , acknowledge, analyze, adjust , creates a culture where mistakes are learning opportunities, not sources of shame.
After every missed shot or turnover in drill play, player must hold a 10-second 'mistake meeting' with themselves.
Player identifies out loud: 1) What happened, 2) Why it happened, 3) What they'll do differently.
On the very next attempt, player implements the correction.
Coach tracks: How quickly did the player identify the correction? Did the next attempt show improvement?
Helpful cues
- The mistake already happened, what matters is what you do with it
- 10 seconds of analysis is worth 100 mindless reps
