How it works

Build the endurance to perform at full skill level throughout a simulated full-game conditioning protocol.

What you need

  • basketball
  • hoop
  • full court
  • clock

Your focus

Most conditioning drills stop before a player hits the fitness wall they would face in a real game. Full-game simulation conditioning builds the aerobic and anaerobic capacity to execute skills at the same level in the fourth quarter as the first. Teams that train this way consistently dominate late in close games.

1

Run a modified 5v5 scrimmage with short breaks exactly mirroring game structure: 8-minute quarters, 1-minute breaks.

2

During each break, players must shoot 2 free throws, 75% team make rate required or the break is cut short.

3

Track shooting percentage, defensive effort, and communication quality each quarter.

4

Compare performance metrics between Q1 and Q4. Close the gap over repeated sessions.

Goal

It's clicking when your skill execution in the fourth quarter of the protocol matches the first, shooting form, dribble control, decision speed. That's full-game fitness.

Helpful cues

  • The fourth quarter is where your conditioning shows, start preparing in Q1
  • Free throws in fatigue are the real test, routine saves you
  • Your ceiling in Q4 is your average in Q2, train your average higher
