How it works

Build peak confidence by voluntarily taking and making the game-winning shot in a high-pressure team simulation.

What you need

  • basketball
  • hoop
  • full squad

Your focus

Confident players step up in pressure moments , they want the ball when the game is on the line. This drill identifies who rises to the moment and trains all players to build enough confidence to volunteer. Repeated simulation of walk-off moments creates players who thrive, not survive, under pressure.

1

Run a 5v5 scrimmage. At random, coach stops play and calls 'Walk-off moment, who wants it?'

2

One offensive player must volunteer and call the shot before play resumes. No assigned plays.

3

That player executes the called shot against live defense. Team celebrates if it goes in.

4

Track who volunteers most often and their make percentage. Recognize highest-confidence player each session.

Goal

It's clicking when you voluntarily step up and take the shot, not assigned to take it, but choosing to. And then making it.

Helpful cues

  • Say 'I got it' before you talk yourself out of it
  • Confident players earn this moment, they don't wait for it to be given
  • The walk-off is as much about the decision to step up as the shot itself

Adjust the challenge

Make it easier

Strip it back

Give the volunteer a specific play to run, remove improvisation.

UpLVL it

Add the next challenge

Defense knows the volunteer, they overplay them and the player must still find a way.
