How it works

Develop assertive confidence by requiring players to verbally call where they will shoot before every attempt.

What you need

  • basketball
  • hoop

Your focus

Calling your shot forces commitment, which is the foundation of confident shooting. Players who hesitate between shot selection and mechanics miss more shots. Declarative commitment before action trains the brain to execute without second-guessing , a core trait of elite scorers.

1

Before every shot attempt, player must call the shot: 'Left elbow jumper,' 'Top of key three,' 'Right baseline pull-up.'

2

If player does not call the shot, the basket does not count regardless of whether it goes in.

3

Shoot 15 attempts per round. Track makes per round across 4 rounds.

4

Debrief: Did calling the shot change your commitment level?

Goal

Success is calling your spot out loud and going to it, not hesitating, not changing your mind halfway there. What you said is what you did.

Helpful cues

  • Say it like you mean it, confidence is in the voice
  • Commitment eliminates hesitation, hesitation kills shots
  • Call it, hit it, that's the confident shooter's process
