Your focus
Basketball presents constant adversity , bad calls, missed shots, defensive pressure. Players who can maintain composure and resilience through these events sustain their performance while others decline. This drill creates the adversity in practice that players will face in games.
Player shoots from 5 spots around the arc, must make 1 from each spot to advance.
Every time a player misses 3 consecutive shots, coach assigns a physical penalty (5 push-ups) before they continue.
Coach also introduces random distractions: loud noise, false praise, or sudden spot changes.
Player must complete all 5 spots in 10 minutes. Debrief on what kept them resilient.
Helpful cues
- Adversity is practice for what the game will bring
- Stay on your routine, change nothing after the miss
- The push-ups are there to test your mind, not your chest
