Your focus
High-level teams talk on every single possession. Penalizing silence creates urgency around communication that mirrors championship-caliber programs. Players who complete this drill report that normal games feel quiet and easy to communicate in, which raises their baseline.
Play 5v5 full-court scrimmage with a coach monitoring communication.
Any player who is silent for more than 5 consecutive seconds causes their team to lose possession, even if no violation occurs.
Coach calls out names of silent players immediately to build awareness.
After each possession, team rates their communication 1–5. Average score kept for the entire scrimmage.
Goal
You're there when silence triggers an immediate consequence and everyone knows it, the standard stays high because the team enforces it on each other.
